Hardwood flooring specialists in the Charlotte Metro Area

Floor Decor & More is a family-owned flooring company founded in 2012 by Mike, and hardwood is where he built his name. We supply and install solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, and custom parquet from every major manufacturer - Lauzon, Mirage, Mercier, Bruce, Kahrs, Coswick, Shaw, Armstrong, and more - for homeowners from the Charlotte Metro Area out to Fort Mill, SC.

Because we buy directly from the mills, you get the same floors the big-box stores sell at retail markup, with none of the discount-bin quality that usually comes with a lower price tag. Our in-house crew handles every step: removal, subfloor leveling, installation, staining, and finishing. Read more about our story on our about us page.

Solid vs. engineered - how to choose

Both are real wood. The difference is how the board is built - and in a climate like ours, with hot, humid summers and the occasional winter ice storm, that choice matters more than the color you pick.

  • Solid hardwood - 3/4" plank of 100% wood, nailed down, can be refinished 5-7 times over its lifetime. Best on plywood subfloors on main and upper levels away from swings in humidity.
  • Engineered hardwood - real wood top layer on a stable plywood core. Doesn't expand or contract the way solid wood can through a Charlotte-area summer. Best over concrete, below grade, and with radiant heat.
  • Wide planks (5"-7") - modern look, work in both solid and engineered constructions.
  • Parquet patterns - chevron, herringbone, custom inlays - all available in solid or engineered.

Wood species and stain colors

Red and white oak account for about 70% of our installations - they're durable, take stain beautifully, and age gracefully. Maple offers a cleaner, more uniform grain. Hickory is the hardest domestic wood and great for active households. Walnut and cherry bring richer, darker tones for more formal rooms. If you want the full story on species and grades, our real & solid hardwood page goes deeper.

Stain options range from natural blonde and whitewashed to grey, fumed, and dark espresso. We bring sample boards to your home so you can see the actual stain on the actual wood in your actual light - not a print in a catalog.

Professional installation and refinishing

We install nail-down, glue-down, and floating hardwood depending on what your subfloor allows. Every job includes moisture testing, subfloor leveling, baseboard removal and reinstall, and full disposal of old flooring. For existing hardwood that just needs new life, our hardwood refinishing crew offers dustless sanding, custom staining, and water-based polyurethane finishes that cure in days, not weeks.

Professional installation and refinishing
Answers
  • Most whole-home installs take 2 to 4 days. Refinishing existing hardwood adds another 3 to 5 days for sanding, staining, and finishing.

  • Engineered hardwood works beautifully in kitchens and below-grade basements - the plywood core stays stable through our region's humid summers. We don't recommend solid hardwood in either location.

  • A quality solid hardwood floor can last 80-100 years and be refinished 5-7 times along the way. Engineered hardwood lasts 30-50 years and can typically be refinished 1-2 times.

  • We bring sample boards in your wood species and color so we can match within a shade or two. If you want a perfect blend, we can refinish your existing hardwood at the same time so the whole floor reads as one.
