Why laminate is back, and better than ever
Modern laminate isn't the plasticky click-floor of 15 years ago. Today's AC4 and AC5 laminate uses high-resolution printed wear layers, beveled micro-edges, and embossed-in-register textures that read as real hardwood from across the room. Floor Decor & More stocks European-made laminate from Krono, Egger, and Quick-Step for the Charlotte Metro Area homes - including out toward Monroe - that want the look of wood without the maintenance schedule.
Laminate is the right choice when you want hardwood looks but need a tougher surface - rental properties, busy family rooms, hallways, kids' bedrooms, and basement bonus rooms. If solid or engineered hardwood flooring is more your speed, we install both and can compare them side by side - and we carry matching laminate stairs systems for the rest of the staircase.

AC ratings - the only spec that matters
The AC (Abrasion Class) rating tells you how the wear layer holds up. We won't install anything below AC4 in the Charlotte Metro Area homes.
- AC3 - light residential only (bedrooms, low-traffic spaces); not recommended
- AC4 - heavy residential and light commercial; our default for most homes
- AC5 - heavy commercial; ideal for entryways, hallways, and rental properties
- AC6 - intense commercial use; available on special order
- Water-resistant cores (HDF or SPC-hybrid) - required for kitchens and bathrooms, or consider LVP instead for full waterproofing

How we install laminate that doesn't squeak or peak
Laminate is a floating floor - if you don't prep the subfloor flat and leave proper expansion gaps, it telegraphs every flaw and peaks at the seams. We laser-level every floor before install, use 3-in-1 underlayment with vapor barrier on concrete, and leave the proper 1/4" perimeter gap concealed by baseboard or quarter-round.
Every laminate install includes acclimation (48 hours on-site before installation to adjust to your home's indoor humidity), end-joint staggering for strength, and color-matched transitions to adjacent rooms - one of many details covered on our services page.

No - laminate has a wood-fiber (HDF) core and a printed/laminated wear layer; vinyl plank has a plastic core and is fully waterproof. Laminate is harder underfoot but more sensitive to standing water.
Modern water-resistant laminate (AquaGuard, Hydroseal, etc.) handles kitchen spills fine. We don't recommend standard laminate near sinks or dishwashers.
AC4 laminate typically lasts 15-20 years in residential use; AC5 commercial-grade can last 25+ years. The wear layer doesn't sand or refinish - when it wears, you replace it.
Yes - every quote includes demo and disposal of the existing floor. Concrete slab and plywood subfloor prep are inspected during the in-home estimate throughout the Charlotte Metro Area.
