Walking into a flooring showroom for the first time can feel like a lot. Racks of wood-look planks, tile boards, carpet wings and color swatches all compete for your attention, and it is easy to leave with more questions than you came in with. A little preparation turns that visit into real progress. Here is how to get the most out of a stop at our showroom at 203 N Broome St in downtown Waxhaw.
What to Bring With You
- Phone photos of each room, taken in daylight, including the floors that connect to it
- Rough room dimensions, even if they are just paced off
- A cabinet door, paint chip, countertop sample or throw pillow you want the floor to work with
- A short list of must-haves, such as waterproof for a kitchen or soft underfoot for a bedroom
None of this has to be precise. We will take exact measurements later. The goal is to give us enough context to point you toward the right part of the showroom instead of all of it.
Questions Worth Asking
Ask how a product handles moisture, because our humid Piedmont summers and the crawlspaces common in Union County homes matter more than many people expect. Our guide to flooring for Charlotte's humid climate is a good primer. Ask what the subfloor in a home like yours usually needs, how a floor transitions into the next room, and how it should be cleaned. If you are comparing materials, it is also fair to ask where a lower-cost option makes sense and where spending a little more pays off.
Compare Categories Side by Side
One advantage of a showroom is seeing materials next to each other. You can feel the difference between luxury vinyl plank and laminate flooring, look at hardwood species and stains in person, and compare tile and carpet textures in one trip. Mike founded Floor Decor & More in 2012 and runs the showroom with his son, Basel, so you will be talking with people who work on these projects every week.
See Samples in Your Own Light
Showroom lighting is not your living room. A plank that looks warm under store lights can turn gray next to a north-facing window. That is why our in-home estimate brings samples to you, so you can set your favorites on the floor in the actual room and see them in morning and evening light. You can also browse our flooring inspiration gallery for photos of finished local projects.
